Samsung Electronics announced to launch the sequel of Samsung Gear S2, Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches, which have gained popularity among the consumers already. Paklap.pk's team has found that the new smartwatch has a vintage, and traditional style looks with the latest features in mobile technology including GPS, mobile payments, IP68 water resistance, and LTE connectivity. It surely strengthens Samsung’s influence in the wearables' market and is a must add to a watches collection. To co-op with the diverse consumer demands, Samsung Gear S3 watches are available in 2 different types of designs: Classic and Frontier.

Classic and Frontier:

The Samsung gear S3 Frontier watch is designed with a rugged look for active consumers. It is more like a sportswear or for the adventure loving people to use it as a smart watch even when it is not connected to a phone. On the other hand, Samsung gear S3 Classic is more of an office wear with a sleek look to show off at your business meetings and workplace. Moreover, Classic has a slightly smaller rotating bezel and is light weight as compared to the frontier. Frontier weighs 62g while the classic has a weight of 57g. In terms of connectivity, Frontier offers LTE/Bluetooth, while Classic features Bluetooth/WiFi. Apart from all these minor differences of appearance and weight, both the models have almost identical features and specs.

Durability:

Samsung claims that the Gear S3 watches are tested to military-level standards. The certification ensures the durability and the quality of the build-up, and will be able to work perfectly under shocks, extreme vibrations, as well as very high and low temperatures. The watch has also been certified as dust resistant and waterproof, making it an ideal addition to any watch collection.

Strap options:

Samsung Gear S3 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the strap options. Samsung, in collaboration with industrial designer and artist Arik Levy, has created plenty of strap designs to provide the users an option to switch from Samsung’s default strap to any other of their choice. They have also created a number of face designs for the watch, 15 of them are pre-installed.

Arik Levy commented:

“It was fun and interesting to work with Samsung on manufacturing evolving and unique watch face designs for the Gear S3.”

Screen and Battery:

The size of the screen differs in Gear S3 as compared to the previous hit Gear S2. Gear S3 features a 1.3 inches screen and 46mm body, while the same parameters in S2 were 1.2 inches and 42mm respectively. It has Corning Gorilla SR+, and 360x360 super AMOLED screen making it the sharpest smartwatch screen.

380 mAh battery makes Gear S3 a smartwatch with the highest amount of power backup. Other ordinary smartwatch batteries usually last 2 days, but Gear S3 could make it to 3-4 days with the usage of LTE. The manufacturers avoided giving any statement on the battery timings while using GPS, but what we predict is that it could have more or less the same amount of stamina as other quality sports watches. Just like Gear S2, S3 also supports wireless charging and have a power saving mode that elongates the battery time.

Bezel Smart:

The same feature that makes Samsung Gear S3 and Samsung Gear S2 very much interesting is the rotating bezel and is the reason why many people think of buying one. But the difference in the Gear S3’s Bezel is that it allows to answer or reject phone calls by its rotation. Moreover, this feature is now open for third party applications also. This is going to be exciting.

Sensor Galore:

Both of the models of Samsung Gear S3 contain plenty of sensors. Just like Gear S2, Gear S3 features sensors like ambient light sensor, pulse count, and accelerometer. But there are some more sensors added in the new version. Now with the new Samsung Gear S3, you can check altitude with altimeter, atmospheric pressure with barometer and speed with the speedometer. It also has the feature to detect the sudden weather changes and alert you while you are out.

The best one is the built-in GPS which makes Gear S3 pretty much like a sports watch. It also has an SOS feature that helps emergency professionals, family, and friends to locate you while you are in crisis.

Samsung Pay:

Now, this is for the ones who have the habit of forgetting their phones at home, or while going for a jog. Samsung Pay flopped in the Gear S2 but is expected to work flawlessly in the Samsung Gear S3. The only thing you need to do is to tap your watch against any card reader, and you are done. Thanks to NFC and MST features in the Gear S2. As far as your security is concerned, the watch only uses the information that is essential for the transaction, and never uses your real debit or credit card number. A 4 digit pin code is generated while setting up the Samsung Pay and is to be entered while doing any transaction. 10 transactions could be done before you connect your phone again. If you are still not satisfied, be sure that the pay system will not work while the watch is out of your wrist.

Release date and pricing:

There is no official statement from the company on the release date and price. But one could expect the release within the next few months. Moreover, the release price is estimated to be about 250-300 USD. The Samsung Gear S3 is compatible only with Android phones, and not with iOS. One of the Samsung’s official, when asked about the iOS compatibility, commented that currently it is under progress and will be available on Gear S2 first.
