"Tech enthusiasts around the world have long known of the rivalry between Microsoft and Linux. Come to think of it, Steve Ballmer actually labeled Linux ‘cancer’ around 15 years ago. However, this rivalry has supposedly come to an end as Microsoft and Linux team up now!

If anything, Microsoft has truly sent tremors around the world by revealing that it has joined the Linux Foundation, and that too as a Platinum member. As most fans and critics have come to believe, this particular step was taken by Microsoft due the changes that have recently come up in the macroeconomics of the PC business. Also, the fact of the matter is that Microsoft has literally failed in terms of making its mark in the mobile market. For this reason, the technology giant probably did not have many options apart from seeking varying types of collaborations and cross-platform support.

Microsoft’s new ambitions for 2017

Microsoft experienced immense success from its Surface Studio, which was perhaps one of its boldest ambitions for the year 2017. With that, the technology giant plans on introducing an entire new line up of Surface Phones. Ever since Microsoft began transitioning from the Windows company to the more extensive ‘cloud first, mobile first’ productivity solutions company, it has definitely been through many changes. As Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise, said in a Microsoft blog post, Microsoft is interested in capitalizing on the industry’s current shift towards cloud first and wants to achieve more through its ‘mobile first’ experiences with the help of tools and platforms that are most used by developers. For this particular purpose, flexible, intelligent and open cloud services are going to be offered by Microsoft to developers so they may deliver outstanding levels of innovation.

Looking at a few bits of evidence, it becomes clear that the much-awaited Surface Phone is going to be part of the equation. Also, considering that Linux has long been very successful, there’s a good chance that the Surface Phone is going to be an outstanding innovations that will have the potential to challenge the upcoming Samsung X and iPhone 8. However, the fact of the matter is that Microsoft and Linux’ partnership isn’t solely going to be focused on mobile phones – there’s a lot more that we can hope to see coming out of this partnership in terms of innovative inventions, PCs and other devices.

Expectations of the Surface Phone

Tech enthusiasts around the world have predicted that Microsoft is working hard to come up with a phone that has its internal elements taken from a laptop, but comes wrapped in the form of a mobile device. They further claim that the Surface Phone is Microsoft’s desperate attempt to save the Windows 10 Mobile.

All in all, it is hoped that the partnership between Microsoft and Linux will lead to greater innovations in technology. Let’s just wait and see what enhancements this particular partnership has to offer in the long run!"
