"After making it available on Wii U last year, Nintendo has made Super Mario Maker available for Nintendo 3DS, enabling you to make intricate, creative and vibrant super Mario Bros. levels. These levels are based on the many generations of Super Mario games and are really fun to create and play with. However, a major drawback is that these designs cannot be shared on the Internet.

Introduction of Super Mario Maker on Wii U last year was a huge success as users enjoyed editing and creating their favorite Super Mario world. But this amazing feature was not as widely available because the Wii U is not so widely famous. In contrast, Nintendo 3DS is owned by a larger number of people and is compact and small, making it the perfect device for the game.

How to use it?

The game uses a stylus to drop obstacles, blocks and enemies on the touchscreen. This makes it easy to drag and drop each element to a desired location. For new users, a tutorial is provided by a talking pigeon called Yamamura and his assistant Mary O. The Super Mario Challenge also serves as a type of tutorial and helps unlock additional tools. It is a kind of a mixture of 100 different levels, some of which can be made by other users. Later, you can download them to make your own versions. Playing this provides inspiration and ideas for your own creation along with teaching you how to use each tool. A ‘100 Mario Challenge’ randomly loads user-made levels for you to play and learn from. After completing this course and unlocking all the tools you can start making your own level. The easy transition between design and play modes helps you test your designs as without difficulty.

Drawbacks

Although Nintendo has won the hearts of its users by introducing Super Mario Maker to 3DS, some of the most amazing features of the game present in Wii U are not present in it. This includes the most important feature: sharing. This can be done locally or by using StreetPass but levels cannot be uploaded online. Since StreetPass only works for areas in close proximity to the 3DS you cannot use it if there is no Nintendo users in your surroundings. Moreover, levels made on Wii U cannot be played on 3DS and vice versa.

Even though the designing stage is more convenient, lack of sharing discourages most users and makes the game lose half of its appeal because they know that their creation cannot be made available to a large number of people or become a worldwide hit. It is not as if the game has no access to the Internet - it goes online to provide stages for you to play with and edit but does not allow you to upload this edited version.

The answer as to why Nintendo has made such a decision is unknown but then again, Nintendo is not really known for making the best decisions. "
