Samsung’s KS9800 TV was released during the IFA 2016 press conference, and it is the new record holder of being the largest quantum-dot TV with the screen size ranging from 43 inches to 88 inches.

Zinc Sulfide is a luminescent semiconductor quantum dot which, when covalently bonded to biomolecules, are used in extremely sensitive biological detection. As compared to the previously used rhodamine, an organic dye, it is 100 times more stable against photobleaching, and 20 times bright. They are biocompatible and water-soluble nanometer conjugates and hence provide a high-quality display.

Zoeller explains the evolution of TV technology, claiming LCD to be the first major step towards the advancement. Next, comes OLED, which is now succeeded by the recently developed quantum dot technology. Samsung’s SUHD TV based on the quantum-dot technology will be launched in 19 various models with size range starting from 43-inches to 88-inches.

Some other big companies such as LG, are now making efforts to produce TVs based on the quantum-dot technology. This technology gives a display with lower burn in, more stable brightness, more power efficiency, while giving an even more vibrant display with more than 1 billion colors. The confidence that Samsung has on it’s new technology and the TV, is at a level that the company is offering 10 years warranty, and claims that there will not be any kind of burn in within the SUHD TVs.

Samsung SUHD TV will have an HDR feature, and the manufacturers are also working in collaboration with Netflix to make 4K HDR content readily available. Although the first one to capitalize on this technology is LG, but Samsung is not far behind and came up with an 88-inches large screen to compete. This development will surely revolutionize the TV industry and is a great step towards advancement.
