Pakistan was named back in 1933 by the honourable, Choudhry Rahmat Ali. He published this name in a pamphlet called “NOW or NEVER” while addressing his Muslim brothers. It was an incomplete acronym that he used, PAKSTAN coming from Punjab, Afghania, Kashmir, Sindh and Baluchistan. The “I” however, was added to be able to pronounce the name and give it meaning in the linguistic sense. It was then that our forefathers dreamt of a better future for us – a free and separate land for the Muslims. They dreamt of a nation which will give its people the liberty to follow their religion freely and build a better future for themselves.
The history is not unknown by us. How the leaders and thinkers alike, fought for us to have Pakistan. It was an idea that that came into existence finally in 1947, August 14 – the day we call Independence Day. We were legally presented with provinces and borders that divided Pakistan from India. People were free to choose wherever they want to reside. However, where there are borders, there is the need of defenders to protect the borders and the people living within.
Though people were legally given the right to choose where they want to reside, there were some religious, social, traditional, economical and egotistical parameters that did not let the people freely decide where they want to live. India felt like the talented people, their families and productive lands of field shall be part of their ownership while Pakistan felt vice versa. Time passed, people survived and the soldiers continued to protect their set of lands.
A war took place over the disputed land of Kashmir in 1947, to decide whose territory it will be. The war continued until 1965 when Indian soldiers have said to intrude into the legal borders (Wahga Border) of Pakistan. The attack was sudden and Pakistani Army men were unaware of it. The war of 1965, namely the Second War of Kashmir commenced. It started when Pakistan started its Operation Gibraltar, where they infiltrated their forces into Jammu and Kashmir to initiate insurgency in opposition to the Indian rule. The Indian soldiers reacted to this, intruded the borders and attacked the Pakistani army men. The attackers, however, were said to be torn apart by the brave army men protecting our borders. They bravely fought on the borders of our country. All they cared about was Pakistan and its people. They fought till the last breath left in their body and gave their fullest to the country. The war continued for 5 weeks causing loss on both sides. Finally, UN compulsed a ceasefire and issued the Tashkent Declaration.
Perhaps, the war wasn’t as easy as it is to put it down here. Owing to the losses and the passion with which the Pakistan’s army men fought, we observe a national holiday in honour of those brave martyrs. The army men, all over the country, salute them.
I can assuredly say that the war tore down both the sides emotionally, economically and politically, regardless of who won and who lost. If there is one thing that held victoriously tall after the war, it was the patriotism that runs through our blood. It is this patriotism that awakens every year on this day and asks us what have we done for the country. This patriotism makes us dance on our toes when we win the international cricket matches. This patriotism makes us proud when a fellow Pakistani achieves a medal or breaks world records. This patriotism makes us guilty when we throw garbage on the streets. This patriotism fills our hearts with emotions when a catastrophe strikes. This patriotism binds all our hearts as one. This patriotism is what keeps Paklap.pk confined to their vision and goal of working towards a better Pakistan and fills us with new energy every day.
An army personnel once said it beautifully;
“Don’t be disappointed when you observe other countries achieving some things that Pakistan has not yet achieved. Don’t get disheartened thinking ke yaar Pakistan ne kya kiya. Look at how old those countries are and how old is Pakistan. Pakistan is just a baby compared. We need to give it the love and care it needs to grow up into a better country and in sha ALLAH it will achieve those heights.”
This blog is for all the martyrs who lost their lives for us and all the army men fighting for us on the borders. Captain Sarwar, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, Major Tufail, Major Shabbir Sharif, Major Muhammad Akram, Sarwar Muhammad Hussain, Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz, and Havaldar Lalak Jan who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan. They were awarded with the most honourable badge of all, “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” for their bravery.
