"The VLC media player owned by VideoLAN is the most popular and frequently-used video-player in the market. It is not only free but also does not need a large storage space. However, the greatest reason for its popularity is that it can run almost every kind of video, no matter what the format is. Thus, it is both light-weight and convenient. Whether it is your PC or Smartphone, VLC is available on almost every platform.
VideoLan has decided to introduce 360 degrees video support on its newest release- VLC3.0. Virtual Reality is the next big thing in the computer visual world and everyone is trying to update their devices and apps to suit VR technology. Video LAN stated that, ‘With the help of Grioptic, VLC becomes the first major video player app to play 360 degree videos out of the box. VLC 3.0 final release will merge those features on all platforms.”
For the release of this software update Video LAN has collaborated with the 360 degree camera company Grioptic. The camera company has helped VideoLan develop compatibility in the system for allowing panoramas and videos.
A technical preview of VLC 3.0 has already been launched and Windows and Mac users are already enjoying the 360 degree video experience. As VLC media players are common in all devices and application stores, no device will be deprived of this majestic experience. The 3.0 version for Android, iOS and Xbox will shortly be made available.
Other features that will set 3.0 far ahead of other media players are: a playback option for 360 degree photos and videos, panoramas and zoom option in display modes. Added to this, VLC will soon be able to support VR headsets and viewers like Google Daydream and Oculus Rift. VideoLan is also thinking about introducing 3D audio with a headphone tracking feature.
The Grioptic CEO and co-founder, Richard Ollier said, “We are very proud to contribute our expertise in 360 degree to this open source player. This will allow the millions of VLC users to take full advantage of a promising new technology and be widely involved in its democratization.”
With its newest release VLC will remain to be at the top of all media players. In addition it will also be a pioneer of 360 degree video support. Along with its free availability on all platforms, all this will make VLC the best media player to date. "
