"Recently, on Wednesday, a Samsung patent made its rounds on the internet, showing a design concept for a new foldable smartphone. The patent and a report claimed that Samsung would unveil its two bendable phones in 2017. This news has brought the idea of foldable smartphones quite close to reality.

Another report suggested that even if Samsung makes the foldable phones, it might be cautious about releasing them in the market yet.

First, Samsung must estimate and gauge the market, which is very unpredictable. The Korean Herald was being told by its ""sources"" that Samsung is already capable of mass production of the foldable phones, although premium models are going to be made in smaller quantities – said to be released by next year. However, the company is currently not sure about the demand for these expensive, foldable cell phones.

In the past, Samsung's experiments with displays ( for example the flexible display in the Galaxy Round) was being sold in their stronghold of South Korea and only a small amount of phones were manufactured. They experimented to see how the customers would respond.

Most of the technology is now ready for foldable devices, but Samsung has a cautious approach with their roll out of the foldable devices. Samsung is taking small steps as the company is still in jeopardy after recalling one of their premium phones, the Note 7 for its explosive tendencies. Now, Samsung is hesitant in launching the foldable devices. One of the Samsung's Electronic affiliate said that following the Galaxy Note 7 issues, Samsung has now become more cautious about unveiling new products -- in terms of hardware especially. According to the industry sources, this hesitancy in launching the foldable smartphones is actually due to the yield and market demand.
