Apple implementing pressure sensitive displays really took the tech world by surprise and started a sort of a new trend. IHS, a research firm, gave its prediction that by 2016, 25 percent of smartphones will have pressure display in some form. Apple iPhones already have this feature and now similar to them, Android will be working on the feature too.
For those who do not know what the feature really is, this explanation brought forward by Paklap.pk, will give them an insight. These displays basically determine your nature of command by the force that you are pressing the screen. Depending on the force, the operating system will perform different actions. Light touch, for instance, would just select data whereas forced touch might zoom in a picture. This is how the touch differentiates.
Melfas, a Korean company, has made these touch screens, that Chrome is trying to add in their operating software. These touch screens include two types of touch; Touch only and Touch + Force (pressure). Google’s recent release, Android 7.0 Nougat, was expected to have the pressure sensitive display. This release was postponed to a later date. However, still many Android phones had this display because of which Google wanted this particular feature to become an Android standard. Similar to how fingerprint reader became a standard for Android phones.
Now, since all Android apps are being installed in Chromebooks, adding the pressure sensitive display seems just as necessary. It still is just in mid air with no confirmation of pressure sensitive supported Chromebook. The news is not entirely a good one, at least not for the ones who already own a Chromebook. They all will still have to spend money and buy a new Chromebook, as obviously old models will not support it.
The debate on this feature is big. People struggle to decide whether it is helpful or just a ploy. Those in favor of the latter were of the view that this feature basically put users in great confusion. Other than that, accidental pressure on the screen would perform opposite actions. Analyzing it from a neutral point of view, Paklap.pk believes that like other new features people will become used to this too, once it becomes common. What is worth appreciating here is the thought and innovation put into the idea. And, we never know if it turns out to be more successful than normal touch displays.
