Lenovo is about to become the biggest computer manufacturer as the Fujitsu is on the verge of selling its PC division to Lenovo. This move will help Lenovo to stay ahead of HP Inc.
As the PC market began to suffer, companies like Fujitsu have been considering merger and other options for their business. Fujitsu has been broadening and expanding its PC business since February 2016, and the recent update says that Lenovo is ready to step in to buy their division.
BBC spotted in Nikkei financial newspaper of Japan that this deal is most probable to happen later this month. Fujitsu has also issued a statement on the rumors that says that their firm is currently considering various options for the PC business, which includes the reports of Lenovo purchasing the PC division, but the decision has not yet been finalized.
The possibilities indicate that there is a very high chance of this happening. Mentioning anything before the deal is done, along with an official announcement made, is unusual in the first place as these things are usually never discussed before any announcement or deal.
The downfall of PC Business and Lenovo
With every statistics and report indicating big slumps in sales, this year turned out to be another bad one for the PC industry.
Despite all the drops in sales and PC industry suffering, Lenovo still maintained the top position among the top vendors. In the latest figures issued in summer from Gartner, the PC shipments of the Chinese firm dropped 2.2% year-by- year.
Lenovo with a market share of 20.5% was still at the top despite this slippage. However, HP due to making a gain of 1.8% in the number of units compared to previous year, moved up to 19.1% of market share.
Another report from a prominent analyst firm IDC shows that Lenovo is at the top. The report indicates that Lenovo with 21.2% of market share is just ahead of HP. The latest market proportion of HP is 20.8%, slightly less than Lenovo.
Lenovo will be exploring its other options to stay at the top of the tree. And, perhaps the reports indicate that leveraging Fujitsu's business is the chosen option.
