Apple has become one of the most famous brands with their high-quality products like the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Their products have always been associated with premium quality and latest features and despite the high price tags, hundreds of MacBooks get sold out every day. Although there isn’t really a problem with the features or the quality of hardware used in MacBook, there is one small thing that most users have to face while using MacBook and that is its battery. Although it does last a decent amount, often there are ways by which you can extend the battery life to a more significant level. Here are some tips which you can try out right now and see a difference in your MacBook’s battery life.

Brightness and Back-light

Often, the biggest culprit behind low battery life is a high brightness setting, the first thing you can do is to set the brightness to a lower level, say 75 percent, this will not only save significant minutes but will also save your eyes at night. The backlit keypad is no doubt a good feature which makes typing at night easier, but if you’re not typing at night then you better turn the back light off, and at day time there isn’t really a purpose of back light. You can disable it via the dedicated back light button (usually F5, or look into settings if your MacBook comes with a Touch bar).

Unnecessary Background Applications

Background applications that you’re not currently using drain your battery pretty fast. To find out about the usage of certain applications by the built in Application Monitor, the battery icon on your menu bar will also let you know if some applications are using abnormal amounts of battery. Find out what applications are running and if you don’t need them right now, open them and click Command+Q, this will immediately quit the application. Also, make sure to regularly check for application updates, often the updates bring battery life improvements.

Connectivity features

The two major types of connectivity on Macbook are WiFi and Bluetooth, chances are you will not always be using both of them. You don’t really need Bluetooth switched on at all times, even though you might use WiFi all the time, there are times; for instance while you’re watching a movie or reading an e-book when you don’t need it enabled. It’s a good idea to switch them off as well, although it might not add hours into your battery life still every minute is important.

Movies

Your battery will get drained less in full-screen mode of your player because the processor won’t have to work extra for all those menu and tool bars, and simply they’re pretty annoying while watching a movie anyway.

It’s also a good idea to download movies instead of streaming them which will put less stress on your system while streaming your flash players and WiFi everything is at work which effects more.

Lastly, you should check the status of your battery (click the icon on your menu bar) if it says “Replace Soon” then there’s some problem with it and you better get it replaced.
