HP’s new Spectre 13 is the talk of the tech town these days; it is the top-notch laptop that everyone had been waiting for. The mere look of it makes people go gaga for it and it only gets better with its specifications. Macbook users are starting to have second thoughts about their customer loyalty with Apple; all because of HP’s engaging design.
There is obviously much more on deck than its breathtaking design, first to mention that it is the world’s thinnest laptop. Yes, one of a kind! HP has gone ahead of its own standard, and that is why people have a hard time believing that the beautiful thing is an HP creation.
So what really is there that catches the eye? The rich combination of gold and copper gives a grandiose effect. The gold coating on the logo and hinges further perfects the design. Before going into the details, the outlook alone of it deserves a lot of appreciation. Carrying this high-class design will make you feel as if you are some rich business tycoon or better, a royal worker.
You will not find any off-centre features like 360 rotations or HD touch screen, but the fascinating thing about this is that even without any of those fancies, HP has managed to take the lead.
It really is the thinnest one, only 10.44 mm which is less than both Macbook and Dell. The striking 13-inch display has a resolution of a good 1920 by 1080 pixels. The brightness will reach a maximum of 301cd/m square. This number gives the best results one could ask for; the pictures are crystalline and colors are absolutely sharp. In fact, in some cases, people have been reported to have had a better watching experience on it than on those super pricey LED/LCD televisions.
Even with all this, some people will not be satisfied because they do not find the touch screen, now let us for a second ignore the beauty of a touch screen and look at the bigger picture. I personally am not a huge fan of it, because reaching the keypad is much quicker than doing all that functioning via touch. Also, HP said that not including the touch feature has enabled them to bring improvement in the battery life, which of course is an essential for a laptop. A good development indeed.
When you open the laptop, the beauty extends to the keypad base. Most of it is copper with outlines of gold on the keys, backlit as well. The keys look sleek and are extremely comfortable to use, and your fingers just glide along on it. As a result, typing speed increases and chances of errors reduce. The pressure, however, builds upon the touch pad, and its efficiency might be a problem with that slow pointer.
A price tag of $1250 sounds pretty big, but it comes with high performance, and everything worth that money. Inside it, you will find Intel Core i7 processor and enough memory space with 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. You can multitask, open more than one tab side by side and enjoy the uninterrupted browsing. Not once will you find the system slowing down or getting stuck. The webcam, however, is a bummer! You can’t even think of having a decent video chat, so leave that task to your phones.
When you see such an exquisite design, you expect it to be perfect in all ways. When it is offering a perfect display and performance, the fan’s loud sound proves to be quite irritating. The “whirring” of it takes away the serenity that one would want while working.
There are some laptops standards that people get used to but HP here slightly changed one of it. You will find the USB ports on the bottom edge instead of the right/left sides and that too only USB C type ports because HP says that in future these will be demanded mostly.
The battery life is said to stay for nine hours but when you actually use it goes down to six hours. Even this isn’t bad considering the brightness mode. If you ask Macbook users, this battery life will surely be an attraction to them. The audio proves to be disappointing, and will work better if you attach them to earphones or headphones.
If you compare it to others like Macbook Air and Dell or Samsung Notebook, you will find yourself in a difficult choice. If you go for a variety of ports and good audio, then Macbook will be the choice, but if you want a classy outlook along with a great display, then HP steals the show. HP Spectre might not be the best value for your money, but it positively is worth the shot. People will constantly ask about the alluring thing you would be carrying in your hands and that moment will feel grand.
