2026 is the year to be alive because the three tech giants aka Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD, are battling for the prime spot. One is promising full-on smartphone vibes. The other is bringing decades of user experience of x86 (revamped) to the forefront. There’s also one which is promising multi-tasking abilities that could probably be a game changer.

Snapdragon X Series - Brief Intro

The Snapdragon X is Qualcomm’s latest processor line, which is designed mainly for Windows on ARM laptops. Snapdragon X aims to design laptops as close to smartphones as practically possible. Obviously, this design inspo has nothing to do with the physical form of smartphones but with the way these devices are used. The Snapdragon X line is divided into three parts: the X Elite (which is for premium laptops), the X Plus (which is for notebook-style laptops), and the standard X (which is for affordable laptops).

Intel Core Ultra Series - Brief Intro

Intel’s Core Ultra series is one of the most popular processors among students and everyday users. The Core Ultra is for users who crave a strong laptop performance with better software compatibility to go with the Windows ecosystem. So, the Core Ultra line is pretty simple and structured. The Core Ultra 9 processors are designed for laptop users who are heavy multitaskers and use demanding apps. Then there is the Core Ultra 7, which handles all the heavy workloads without any negative side effects on the overall performance. CPU Architecture - x86 vs ARM

The architecture of a processor basically decides if your laptop is energy efficient or not and also how efficiently it performs. Modern laptops run on either the x86 (traditional style) or the more recent ARM.

Oryon Architecture

The Snapdragon X processors have the Oryon architecture, which is an ARM-based design. All the cores in this CPU are pretty much identical in the sense that they deliver the same strong performance. And yes, the keyword is ‘using less energy’. Because of these cores, the laptop stays cool even after hours of non-stop use.

Hybrid Architecture

The Core Ultra line uses an x86 hybrid architecture. In some CPUs, only performance or only efficiency type cores are used, but in this one, both performance and efficiency cores are involved. The P-cores handle the more intense tasks like compiling code and video editing, whereas the E-cores take care of the lighter background work.

Zen Architecture

The Ryzen AI chips also use the x86 architecture, though the cores aren’t the same as the P and E cores. This chip uses something called Zen Cores. These are identical and can manage both heavy and light workloads side by side. So the processor adjusts speed and power on its own, automatically.

From a more theoretical POV, Intel Core Ultra is the most advanced. It’s got a mix of specialized (or better say dedicated) cores with no need for power adjustment whatsoever.

AI Engine - Hexagon vs AI Boost vs XDNA

Dedicated AI engines in processors have become the new normal, and for all the right reasons. Imagine a laptop that can’t do real-time translation or voice recognition. It’d just be an outdated piece of sh*t, that too without the best AI features.

Hexagon NPU

The Hexagon NPU is the dedicated AI engine used in Snapdragon X laptops. It is designed for local or on-device AI processing to manage tasks without sending data to external servers. What this does is it improves the speed (because of 45 TOPS) and power efficiency of a laptop while also maintaining privacy.

Intel AI Boost

The Core Ultra processors use Intel AI Boost to manage their AI workload. Like the Hexagon, this technology also gives you the benefits of on-device AI processing rather than relying on the cloud. The NPU runs at 34 TOPS max and improves the overall performance of tasks that have AI involved, like creative software tools.

AMD XDNA

The XDNA is basically the AI engine inside the AMD Ryzen AI processors. Like its peers, it's also a dedicated NPU which supports local AI processing to counter the privacy threats related to the cloud. The main task of this NPU is to kind of pump up the operations of the system. So when your laptop’s acting all ‘blink and it’s done’, you know it's because of this NPU.

The Snapdragon X series currently has the strongest dedicated NPU despite having slightly fewer TOPS than Ryzen AI. The kind of AI acceleration it has just makes it ideal for modern AI-focused laptops.

iGPU - Adreno vs Intel Arc vs Radeon

A common myth among users is that dedicated graphics are the best option. But in reality, having a good integrated graphics card should be the goal. Built-in graphics allow you to enjoy a better battery life without all the heat and noise. Plus, it suits thin laptops better.

Adreno

The Adreno graphics chip in the Snapdragon X series was originally not developed for laptops, but it ended up being a keeper. This iGPU can manage all kinds of tasks, including modern visual workloads. That being said, these graphics cards are not built for heavy gaming or complex graphics rendering.

Intel Arc

The Intel Arc GPU is built using the same architecture as Intel’s dedicated Arc graphics card. This means that you can expect this GPU to be more effective than regular integrated chips. This integrated GPU supports the modern graphics technology used by many creative apps and games. The advanced media engine of this GPU also accelerates tasks like video editing and high-res playback.

Radeon

The Radeon GPU is designed to handle visuals of both everyday tasks and demanding workloads. From light gaming to intensive photo/video editing, this chip can handle it all. It promises strong graphical performance in compact laptops and delivers a hundred per cent.

If we look at it in terms of power, the Radeon graphics card has the strongest performance by far. It’ll run super smooth, won’t stutter, and you can use it for casual gaming sessions as well. 

Conclusion 

When comparing the Snapdragon X, Intel Core Ultra, and AMD Ryzen AI with each other, there's no single answer on which is better. They all have their fair share of goods and bads, that’s settled. If we consider overall efficiency and AI, then the Snapdragon X series is the best. 

However, if you want strong graphics, then you should simply go with AMD Ryzen AI. Now, if your focus is on neither AI nor graphics, then just opt for Intel Core Ultra. You get the gist, all three processors are ‘best’ for certain use types.
