Lenovo Idea Pad Y900 is the notebook all gamers had been waiting for. Lenovo has definitely gotten an edge over the design and look of the laptop. It looks stylish yet fierce for action.

Right in the middle of the back lid is the red plastic “Y” carved in. The Lenovo logo is written in the top right corner and instead of plain black paint, lateral lines cover the back lid. Two angular additions complete the look. This was the exterior, and the interior is just as attractive. There is a large black palm rest with a glossy finish.
As far as the connectivity is concerned, there are two USB ports on the right side along with a microphone and headphone jack. Display supports a striking resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a size of 17.3 inches. When games like Witcher 3 were played, the colors seemed to get faded. Colors particularly; pink, oranges and blues were not displayed in their actual tones. It has a sRGB of 107 percent which is great but still lower than many other laptops like Alienware. The brightness, however, was better at 306 nits. Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, as the name suggests, syncs the display rate with the graphics card to give smooth images.
Audio system should always be clear in gaming laptops because that is what keeps the fire going. This laptop has Dolby’s audio system which played all the gaming sounds effectively. The sound was so clear that even the chirping of the birds was audible in some games. In case any distortions occur, users can fix it in the dynamic settings option.
The keypad is probably the most attractive feature of this laptop. Ideapad Y900 has its own super clicky mechanical keyboard. It has a 3.1mm of travel which is a little too much than the average travel rate of 1.5mm. A force of 71 grams is needed to press the keys which seems a bit demanding initially. However, with time as users get used to the keypad typing becomes a fun experience. On a typing test, 10FastFingers, it got an average rate of 68 words per minute. Many users were annoyed by it initially, but then they got so used to it that they recommended that this should be brought in other Lenovo series too. Right below is the touch pad of size 4.1 x 2.7 inch. The size is wide enough to comfortably use.
The keyboard has a backlit system with multiple colors. In case users get bored of it, they can always change it. They can do this with the light shift in Lenovo’s nerve centre. Furthermore, if you want a couple of keys to protrude from others then that is also available in editing options there. This is one of Lenovo’s ways to involve their customers and make them feel that their say is also being given consideration.
Since the laptop is all about gaming, it would be wrong to not discuss the gaming graphics. One big downside to this laptop is the fact that it has Nvidia GTX 980 GPU instead of the latest “Pascal” 10 series. The latest graphic card supports virtual reality and has a higher frame rate. Despite this, 980 GPU still delivered good enough frame rates. Different games were played to test the frame rates in which Y900 topped the rates for quite a few games like Grand Theft Auto.
Inside is the 2.7 GHz Intel core i7-6820 HK Quad core processor with massive storage of about 16 GB RAM. As a test, a total of 18 chrome tabs were opened alongside a video and none of them stopped streaming. This indicates that the overall processing power of this laptop is great. Transfer rate is 462.7 Megabytes per second which is an appreciable result compared to the other laptops in competition, except Alienware.
Battery life was another area where Lenovo lost its track. With internet surfing, the laptop lasted only 3 hours and 53 minutes which is actually a lot below than Alienware. The reason why we are continuously comparing Ideapad with Alienware is because the latter too is a gaming laptop and amongst the leading ones.
