"Not long ago, DJI had launched its high-end, ultra-portable and the first of its kind, collapsible drone which was called the Mavic Pro Drone. Now DJI has launched the latest Phantom 4 Pro drone which looks pretty much the same as the previous models but, comes with the latest technology which outsmarts the previous technologies.

The design of the Phantom 4 Pro

The Phantom 4 Pro is not much different than the original Phantom 4. The physical design is made of white plastic with quadcopters and well-built legs. There are two pairs of sensors at the back and front on top of each leg. Many other sensors are present on the sides and also underneath the drone. The camera is there to record the footage as the drone takes off. This aids the drone in flying back home after you order it to come back after flying.

To make it easy for the user to spot the drone, each of the arms of the device has been equipped with a red or white colored light.

The camera hangs beneath the drone with a three-axis gimbal which has been designed for the purpose of keeping the camera steady and working even in the roughest situations.

The Phantom 4 Pro drone comes with a 5,870mAh battery whereas the Phantom 4 shipped with a 5,350mAh. This high-density battery provides half an hour of flight time and the high density of the battery allowed DJI to fit the larger capacity battery in the same sized drone.

The Camera of the Phantom 4 Pro

Although the shape and look of the Phantom 4 Pro are the same, however, the camera has been upgraded to take higher quality and professional images. The camera can also make professional videos. The camera comes with the new system of eight element lens. Behind all these lenses there is a 20-megapixel sensor which is one inch in size and has 12 stops of the dynamic range. This ensures that the camera captures the details, colors and color contrasts of the scene even under intense or bad lighting. The built-in system has improved the working of the camera under low light which the Phantom 4 lacked. The size of the sensor is also four times more than Phantom 4 Pro as compared to the Phantom 4.

To avoid the distortion caused by rolling shutter, the camera has been equipped with a mechanical anti-shutter distortion. The rolling shutter distortion was the stutter caused while panning across the scenes. Now the mechanical shutter aids the camera of Phantom 4 Pro in producing more smoother footage as compared to the Phantom 4. The camera of the Phantom 4 Pro can shoot 4K video at a rate of up to 60 frames per second. If we compare the frame rate for 4K video with the frame rate of DJI Mavic Pro, then the frame rate of Phantom 4 Pro is double than the frame rate of DJI Mavic Pro.

If you are a video codec nerd, then we also have good news for you. The camera supports H.264 4K at the frame rate of 60 frames per second while H.265 4K is supported at the frame rate of 30 frames per second. Both these are supported at the bitrate of 100 megabits per second.To be precise, it will capture everything without any tearing in between the videos.

Autonomous Flying of the Phantom 4 Pro

The autonomous flying and the auto-tracking capability were the most loved features of the DJI Mavic Pro, and these features have also been added to the Phantom 4 Pro. A few other modes have also been added to the new Phantom 4 Pro.

Some highlight features, recently added in the Phantom 4 Pro are “Draw”. This feature allows the user to draw a straight line on the screen of the drone and the drone will fly in the direction automatically while maintaining the altitude. In this mode, you can either keep the camera locked in a single position, i.e. forward-facing position, or you can move the camera freely in any direction.

Phantom 4 Pro can recognize the objects like cars, bikes, people, etc. and can also follow them if needed. The following modes are available on the Phantom 4 Pro:

 The Trace mode, if selected, will allow the drone to follow from the front or from behind a specific object.

 The Profile mode if selected allows the drone to fly alongside the selected object.

 The Spotlight mode if chosen keeps the camera locked to the specific object while the drone will fly around freely.

 Return to Home This feature existed in the previous models, however, it has been upgraded in Phantom 4 Pro. The drone will automatically choose the best and safest route back home, based on the environmental conditions. When it returns, it will land at the same place from where it took off.

 TapFly A really interesting feature is the TapFly feature which allows the users to tap on the screen and the drone will then fly in that direction.

 TapFly Backward TapFly Backward will make the drone go in the opposite direction.

For all the above modes, the drone will avoid the obstacles by itself and will not get stuck in a tree or smash into a cliff, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Flying speed and obstacles

The flying speed of the drone, while the obstacle avoiding system is on, is 31 mph. Whereas during the Sports mode, the sensors will switch off and the drone will move with a speed of 40 mph.

After the launch of the Mavic Pro, it seemed that the Phantom series would cease to exist. However, the launch of Phantom 4 Pro will attract the users that need professional features and camera results.
