The smartphone competition has left many brands struggling to justify the higher price for their products. The standard features are now easily available on every other smartphone, even the infamous and low-end brands. This puts great pressure on brands like Sony, Samsung, LG and Apple to match their products to the high prices they charge. The only way to do this is by increasing their budgets and stepping into the big ring.

LG’s “G” series is a line of Android phones developed by LG Electronics, launched first in 2012 with Optimus G. The latest one is LG G4, and now G5 has been launched with massive improvements. It has everything good that a user would want, along with a quirky design.

Compared to the plastic body of G4, G5 now comes with a metal body. When you hold it, however, it feels plastic-y due to the curved four edges. LG has done a great job with the weight being only 156 g, which is a lot less than its forerunner. Inside is a removable battery of 2800 mAh and built-in storage of 32 GB. This is a very less storage offered when compared to 64 GB that many other counterparts typically offer. The RAM goes to a total of 4 GB, which is mediocre compared to the other phones in the competition.

The power button below allows unlocking with just a touch, unlike other phones in which you have to go through a 2-step process to access. The "touch" process is super fast and accurate. The only setback is of it being a little too responsive, due to which the phones get locked for some seconds. The removable bottom of the phone, via the help of which the battery comes out, is a noticeable feature. The fact that the bottom can be removed comes as a surprise to many and gives a revolutionary effect to it. Apart from just the battery popping out, you can attach other accessories to it like Olufsen DAC and Bang. These attachments come in handy and useful. It, however, becomes irritating when you have to restart the phone every time its bottom is detached. The success of this component will only be guaranteed if people learn how to make use of it and the developers manufacture modules for it.

Display of G5 will not at all be a cast down. The 5.3-inch screen with a quad HD display is the best deal yet. A quad HD display is the highest resolution that can be offered in a smartphone and therefore should be celebrated. The pixels are same as before and it is only the size that came down to 5.3 from 5.5. The sharp colors will be preferred by people who like vibrant results and for others, it may be an issue.

The dual sim slot and volume buttons are both located on the left side. The built-in module of the phone comes with type-C port and usual microphones and speakers. The micro-SD slot can only support either a second sim or an extra storage card, so users are again left with the same issue of limited space. G5’s software, which is Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 isn’t a famous one but is easy to work with.

A good camera is what people are always looking for in phones, and LG has managed to keep up with their expectations. There is a back camera of 16 megapixels along with a support of 8 megapixels, making it a dual camera. Front camera of 8 megapixels is perfect to take those ravishing selfies. Other features like autofocus, color sensor, and image stabilization further perfects the pictures. The whole idea behind this was to give a professional DSLR result without having to incorporate those heavy lenses. Modes too, can easily be changed to suit the angle and camera works perfectly fine in even low lighting.

Due to the high-resolution screen and excessive usage, the battery gets heated up and then you have to put it away at rest for a while. Thanks to QuickCharge, though, that it can be recharged pretty fast. Audio system works good but slightly better when attached with headphones.

When you first see the phone, you do realize that there is something special in it, and its modular component fits perfectly in that definition. LG has forever tried to be innovative in their approach. Doing so has its risks but LG goes forward with it anyway. The modular feature is at the same risk of going down, but that only time will tell.

Other than this G5 has definitely come as an upgrade to its previous version. The extraordinary set of cameras is what has lifted the whole game and will attract a lot of people. For anyone who is deciding to buy a good android phone, G5 is a good option at a price of Rs 52,990.
