On Saturday, the California-based company Snapchat announced that it will be launching a line of video catching glasses. The glasses aka spectacles are reported to be a modified version of the Glass eyewear which was abandoned by Google Inc around a year ago.

Snapchat has also made it public that the company will be changing its name from “Snapchat” to “Snap Inc”. They will be releasing the glasses very soon, with reports suggesting the price is set near $130 per pair.

Snapchat recently made a change in their messaging system. Previously messaging was operating in a way that the messages used to disappear after being seen. The update was based on a way to save pictures as “memories”.

The new video catching glasses are developed having the smallest wireless cameras which are capable of capturing snaps for a whole day in one charge. The spectacles create a wireless connection with the Snapchat application on the phone via Wifi or Bluetooth. The videos and Snaps are taken from the perspective of the one wearing them, providing an 115 degrees field of view. The spectacles also provide a feature that allows one to record snippets to share as their Snapchat story.

The purpose of building such spectacles is to provide their 100 million users an option to capture their memories the way they actually saw them and recall them from the same view.

Google’s internet-linked spectacles, which were available in the US markets from early 2014, are no more accessible. The manufacturers halted the production after the device faced criticism about the privacy issues and $1500 price tag.

Snapchat is expected to release a limited amount of the newly built video-catching spectacles in order to put pressure on the competitor GoPro which already has various models of similar gadgets available in the market.

GoPro was a hit in its starting time. It became popular among the passionate sportsmen and young ones, who wanted such cameras to capture dramatic moments and share them on social media. Last week GoPro has released a drone named "Karma" and Hero5 cameras. The new releases haven’t earned any profit yet for the manufacturers due to already present competition in the market and have been smashed.
