While there are tons of different options when it comes to buying a portable laptop, particularly the 13 or 14-inch variants. Every major company has introduced many versions of portable notebooks, for example, Apple has the 13-inch Macbook, Lenovo gives you Yoga series, in short, there are many options available.

But almost all of them cost quite a lot, even for a mini laptop, particularly the Apple ones. Acer has always been a choice for users who were a little tight on budget, providing laptops with decent hardware configurations and with comparatively low prices.

Acer Swift 5 is also such system having a (14”) display screen, that comes with the latest 7th Gen processors by Intel, priced at 699 pounds (roughly 95,900 PKR), it costs lower than other similar systems.

Let’s review some of Acer Swift 5's features:

Powerful performance, thanks to ‘Kaby Lake’

As stated earlier, the Swift 5 comes with the latest 7th Generation Processors by Intel, called “Kaby Lake”. There are two different configurations available, you can either get a Core i5 one or a Core i7 one. The Intel Core i5 version will obviously cost less, you can get it at around 699 pounds while the Core i7 version will cost you about 799 pounds.

If you don’t intend to do any heavy work than the Core i5 delivers quite decent performance, your normal tasks run pretty smoothly and you can even get your hands dirty with some entry level video editing, however, don’t expect it to be very good at it. The Core i5 Processor is a mid range processor, not particularly suitable for heavy tasks like high definition video editing or gaming etc.

Comfortable Typing, uncomfortable lightning

While the keys on Acer Swift 5 are pretty well distanced, perfect for typing even if you do it for longer periods of time, and also you get a full UK style keypad. There’s a slight problem of the keypad back light, it suffers from light bleeding, while it doesn’t hinder your typing ability to a great extent but still, it feels uncomfortable sometimes, and takes out some points from the build quality of Acer swift 5.

Fairly good design

The Swift 5 is all metal, it is also quite thin and light weight, 14.6mm thickness, and 1.36 kg weight makes it particularly portable.

It’s a little thicker than other notebooks with similar traits, but Acer used the extra thickness to give you more ports so the extra thickness can be neglected. It comes with two USB 3.0 ports, one Type-C port, HDMI, SD Card slot, Headphone jack etc.

Although, it’s all metal, the overall quality isn’t that great. Surely, it looks good, and is fairly strong but if you compare it with other machines of same configurations; like Macbook, then it's designed feels a little lower in quality.

Clear Display

The 14-inch display is quite clear and vivid. It supports brightness of 345 nits, which is more than enough for comfortable viewing even when the lighting condition on the outside is strong, for instance at day time.

It also shows you a long range of colors. 88.9% sRGB support makes it possible, images and videos feel quite detailed and vibrant.

The screen is glossy which possess some issue of glare but the anti-reflection coating somewhat prevents it from creating noticeable problems.

Strong battery

Acer Swift 5 gives an average of over 9 hours on a single charge. As this is an ultra thin portable laptop, the strong battery life is expected. Even at high definition movie playing, you can get the same 9 hours plus battery life.

If you’re on a budget and want a notebook with quality hardware then this could be the perfect laptop for you. There certainly are some minor issues as stated above, but at this price its pretty much the best little laptop you’ll find.

You will be able to find this latest Swift 5 laptop in our Acer’s Section soon.
